Our Biological Barometer

At night at the property you will hear the frogs calling to each other. This lovely fellow is a Green Tree Frog, which will often live in harmony with human hosts. They will hang around any light source that attracts insects.

The presence of frogs in an enviroment can be used as a biological indicator of that environment being healthy due to their sensitivity to chemicals and pollution.

Green Tree Frogs can live in urban areas, bush and wetlands. They have a habit of taking up residence in and around houses, around shower blocks, water tanks and drain pipes. Green Tree Frogs sit beneath outside lights at night to catch insects that are attracted to the light, but they are also capable of taking larger prey on the ground, including mice. They will grow up to about 12cm and their lifespan is around sixteen years.
